Jim Verburg Canada, b. 1977

“Through light, material, and gesture, I try to hold onto something fleeting. An emotional trace that exists somewhere between reflection and presence.”
Jim Verburg is a Dutch/Canadian artist based in Toronto whose multidisciplinary practice spans film, photography, and drawing. His work is inspired by the subtle and transient qualities of light, using materials such as ink, charcoal, and graphite on surfaces like paper, mylar, and fabric. Through quiet, geometric compositions and layered transparencies, Verburg creates meditative works that explore introspection, material sensitivity, and emotional resonance.
